About LEO Token

UNUS SED LEO is the exchange token of iFinex, the parent company of Bitfinex, launched in 2019 to help offset an $850 million shortfall tied to seized corporate funds. It gives holders trading fee discounts and other perks across the Bitfinex ecosystem, and iFinex commits at least 27% of its monthly revenue toward buying back and permanently burning LEO tokens from the open market. LEO was issued by iFinex, the parent of Bitfinex and Tether, in an unusual context: it was launched to raise capital after a large sum was frozen in a payment processor dispute, with a commitment to buy back and burn tokens using company revenue including any recovered funds. That origin makes it one of the few tokens with an explicit, publicly stated redemption logic attached to a corporate balance sheet. Understanding that history explains its supply behaviour far better than any technical description would.

Quick answers
Why was LEO created?

It was issued to raise capital after a large sum belonging to its issuer was frozen in a payment-processor dispute, with a stated commitment to buy back and burn tokens from company revenue.

What is the burn commitment?

The issuer committed to using a share of revenue, including recovered funds, to repurchase and destroy LEO, steadily reducing supply.

What does LEO provide to holders?

Fee discounts and benefits on the Bitfinex exchange, alongside the supply reduction from ongoing buy-backs.

What is the main risk with LEO Token?

It is tied to a single corporate group's revenue and legal position, which is a concentrated exposure rather than a diversified one.
