Optimism is an Ethereum layer-2 rollup and the origin of the OP Stack, the codebase now used by Coinbase's Base, World Chain and others to launch their own chains. Its distinctive feature is retroactive public goods funding, where a share of revenue is distributed to projects after they have proven useful rather than granted upfront on a promise. Optimism's significance now extends beyond its own chain: its OP Stack is the codebase behind a growing set of other rollups, several run by large consumer brands, which are linked as a Superchain sharing a security and governance framework. That makes OP as much a bet on a standard being adopted as on one network's traffic. Its governance splits decisions between token holders and a citizens' house intended to fund public goods. On this map OP trades with the Layer 2 group; the Superchain angle is a structural argument that does not show up in daily price data.
