Shiba Inu launched in 2020 as an Ethereum-based meme coin inspired by Dogecoin's Shiba Inu mascot, built by an anonymous creator known as "Ryoshi." It has since expanded well beyond a simple meme token into an ecosystem that includes ShibaSwap, its own decentralized exchange, and Shibarium, a layer-2 network built to reduce fees for its community of holders. Shiba Inu launched as a Dogecoin imitation with an enormous supply and then did something unusual for a meme: it built. Shibarium is its own network, and there is a decentralised exchange and token ecosystem around it. Whether that infrastructure is genuinely used or is a narrative attached to a meme is the honest open question. Its very low unit price is purely a function of supply and says nothing about size — its market capitalisation places it near the top of the meme group.
Why is each SHIB worth a fraction of a cent?
Because supply is enormous. Unit price is meaningless without supply; market capitalisation is what determines bubble size on the map.
What is Shibarium?
A network built by the Shiba Inu project, intended to give the token an ecosystem beyond speculation. How much it is actually used is the open question.
Is SHIB just a Dogecoin copy?
It started as one, then added its own infrastructure. Whether that infrastructure changes what the asset is remains debated.
How volatile is it?
Meme assets typically show much larger percentage moves than platform tokens of similar size. On a bubble map that means strong colour on comparatively small circles.
Market cap decides how big a bubble is drawn, so rank is what places SHIB on the map relative to the rest of its sector.
