Theta is a video delivery network where viewers relay streams to each other, cutting the bandwidth cost that content platforms would otherwise pay a CDN, and it counts Samsung and Sony among its enterprise validators. It has since extended the same idea of pooled spare capacity to GPU compute for AI workloads. Theta's original idea was to use viewers' spare bandwidth to relay video, cutting the delivery cost of streaming — a real problem, since bandwidth is one of the largest costs for any video platform. It has since expanded into providing distributed GPU compute as demand shifted towards AI workloads. It uses a two-token model, with TFUEL handling operations. On this map THETA sits in the infrastructure group, and like others there its adoption should be judged by paying usage rather than by node counts.
What is Theta's original use case?
Relaying video through viewers' spare bandwidth to reduce content delivery costs, which are among the largest expenses for streaming platforms.
Why does it now offer GPU compute?
Demand shifted towards AI workloads, and the same distributed-resource model applies to compute as to bandwidth.
Why two tokens?
THETA is used for staking and governance while TFUEL handles operational payments, separating the security asset from the transactional one.
How should adoption be judged?
By paid usage rather than by node counts. A large number of participating nodes does not by itself indicate paying demand.
Market cap decides how big a bubble is drawn, so rank is what places THETA on the map relative to the rest of its sector.
