About Flare

Flare is a layer-1 built around getting outside data onto the chain natively, running two protocols at the base layer: a price feed maintained by its validators and a system for reading the state of other blockchains without a bridge. The aim is to let assets like XRP or BTC be used in smart contracts without wrapping them through a custodian. Flare's purpose is to bring data onto chain: it runs an oracle system and a state-connector that lets contracts act on information from other blockchains and from outside sources without a separate third-party provider. That makes it closer in function to the oracle group than to general-purpose Layer 1s, even though it is a chain in its own right. It also became known for large token distributions to holders of other assets. On a bubble map FLR is a mid-cap whose moves have tended to follow its own distribution and integration news.

Quick answers
What does Flare's state connector do?

It allows contracts on Flare to verify events that happened on other chains or in external data, so applications can act on information the chain itself did not produce.

Is Flare an oracle or a blockchain?

Both — it is a Layer 1 chain whose distinguishing feature is native data-acquisition infrastructure rather than general-purpose execution alone.

What is FLR used for?

It pays transaction fees, is delegated to data providers whose price feeds secure the oracle, and is used in governance.

Why is Flare associated with airdrops?

Large distributions to holders of other assets were part of how the network bootstrapped its holder base, which shaped both its supply schedule and its early price history.
