About Gram

Gram is the native token of The Open Network (TON), a fast layer-1 blockchain originally designed by Telegram before the project was spun out to an independent community in 2020. It traded as Toncoin for several years until a 2026 community vote restored its original name from Telegram's 2018 whitepaper, with no impact on the underlying network or holders' balances. TON is closely tied to the Telegram messaging app, which integrates wallets and mini-apps directly into its interface. TON's distinguishing feature is distribution rather than architecture: it is built around integration with a large messaging platform, so onboarding happens inside chat rather than through a separate wallet download. That gives it a different growth pattern from chains that grow through developer adoption, and its activity has been driven heavily by consumer applications and in-app games. On a market map TON sits in the Layer 1 group by size, but its moves have often been driven by product and distribution news specific to it rather than by the general risk appetite that moves the rest of the group.

Quick answers
What makes TON different from other Layer 1 chains?

Its distribution. Wallets and applications are reachable directly inside a widely used messaging app, so users can transact without installing separate software. That is a user-acquisition advantage rather than a technical one.

What is the ticker for Toncoin?

The asset is tracked here under the symbol shown at the top of this page. Note that ticker symbols are not unique across projects — BubbleLayer identifies every coin by its own identity rather than by symbol, so the coin you open is the one you selected.

Does TON move with the wider Layer 1 group?

It participates in broad market moves, but a meaningful part of its price history has been driven by distribution and product news specific to its ecosystem rather than by sector-wide flows.

What is TON used for?

It pays transaction fees on the network, is used for staking, and is the settlement asset for the applications built on it.
